The Ballad Locks, more formally called the Hiram M. Chittenden Locks, are a great place to visit, especially for those visitors who have their children along with them. Visitor’s children especially enjoy watching the Ship Canal locks at Lake Washington in operation as they help all kinds of boats pass between Puget Sound and Lake Union. They also enjoy seeing the fish ladder. This fish ladder is what salmon use to travel upstream to at least as far as the waters of Lake Washington.
